Meanwhile, fans must subsist on meagre transfer news as three major tournaments play out. AFCON fans are in midseason form. Egypt hosts the first summer edition of the competition and doubles as its most prolific champion. And they have Mohamed Salah.
The 26-year old Liverpool forward is literally the face of his nation. Salah isn’t just the favourite among Liverpool fans, he’s hailed by Egyptians and neutrals the world over. Salah’s rise to prominence has been remarkable. Playing in the world’s most popular league and two Champions League finals has definitely helped his case, even if the first proved a painful memory on more than one level.
