Hunting season is underway at Juventus. Supplementing their search for Massimiliano Allegri’s successor sees them planning their next marquee acquisition. Over the years, superstar signings have become a nature of habit for Andrea Agnelli. That tradition probably won’t stop this time around either...
Well, becoming the best in Europe doesn’t come cheap. The Bianconeri needs to spend big for top-level talents. Pulling off the steal of the year with Aaron Ramsey isn’t enough. Agnelli really is desperate for the UEFA Champions League. As a result, he’s planning on creating a lethal midfield core by targeting another world-class midfielder. When you have Cristiano Ronaldo, proper service is required for him to start booming.
A sensational return for Paul Pogba is on the cards. So is the superstar acquisition of Lazio’s Sergei Milinkovic-Savic. Both serve one purpose for filling that missing cutting edge in midfield. After being outplayed by the Ajax kids in Europe, Agnelli wants to ensure a similar embarrassment isn’t repeated. Of course, to be the best, you need to possess the very cream of the crop.
“Pogback” 2.0” is a beneficiary move on all fronts. The Frenchman would be able to further boost his commercial value with a high-profile move to the Undisputed Italian champion. He’d escape his Old Trafford nightmare, returning to the place where he’d tap into his utmost potential. Juventus’ have lacked a complete midfield package like Pogba since his departure. Now in his prime, the 26-year-old’s the dynamic general required to get the Bianconeri roaring again.
When it comes to Milinkovic-Savic, The Old Lady sees the enforcer they’ve lacked to break down stubborn defences and add an intimidating edge to their core. The Serbian’s a strong, technically gifted menace with that intimidating factor Juventus are so desperate to instil into the system. A natural midfielder with ample experience in Italy, he’d take no time whatsoever in blending into the unit.
However, Milinkovic-Savic isn’t that midfield spark they’re looking for. Don’t let the Serie A “Best Midfielder” award fool you. Despite baffling everyone by winning the award, he wasn't even close to being top dog in Italy. The Serb’s abrupt goal participation rate and frustrating inconsistency aren’t tolerated in Turin.
Moreover, the 23-year-old hasn’t even played in the UEFA Champions League so far. He isn’t capable of making a big impact week in, week out and is underwhelming with his drop in work-rate. Lazio would want to milk out too much for the Serbian. Milinkovic-Savic frankly isn’t better than their current core, as rather than improving things could deteriorate with his erratic nature.
When it comes to Pogba, the Old Lady are getting someone they can rely upon. There shouldn’t even be a contest, frankly. The Frenchman loves playing in the Allianz Stadium and is suited to the Serie A setup. An excellent personal season at United means he’ll return to Juventus a much more potent influence than before. Granted, the 26-year-old is lazy when tracking back and shaky defensively, but his majestic work going forward cannot be understated. The Old Lady already boasts a commanding defensive line, so he doesn’t have to worry about defending deep.
The Frenchman’s exceptional passing range, eye for the spectacular as well as vibrancy going forward will help bring the creative boom. He’s a reliable goal-scorer capable in breaking the predictability in Juve’s attacking style. With someone like Ramsey partnering him, Pogba will soar in reinvigorating their midfield into a well-oiled machine.
Having reached the Champions League final with the Bianconeri before, he must be craving to finish the job. The Frenchman's not the easiest to sign. However, splurging big on a player his calibre is definitely worth it, as he'd amplify Ronaldo's effectiveness and lead the charge in guiding the Bianconeri to break their European curse.
