Is another draw on the cards when Liverpool welcome Man City to Anfield?

Saturday 28th February 2015
The Premier League fixture generator sprouts out an absolute cracker on Sunday lunchtime when the top-flight's most in-form team, Liverpool, lock horns with defending champions Man City, in what promises to be a humdinger at Anfield.

Liverpool have propelled themselves right into the mix for a top-4 finish following an impressive 10 game league run, during which Brendan Rodgers' men have won seven times, including five of their last six. The Reds head into Sunday's spectacle brimming with confidence after last weekend's valuable victory away to top-rivals Southampton, which has drawn the Merseyside outfit to within just two points of fierce rivals Man Utd in 4th.

However, Liverpool are 10 points adrift of 2nd-placed Man City, who remain the only realistic title challengers to league leaders Chelsea, with Jose Mourinho's men five points ahead at the summit. City may have slipped to a disappointing 2-1 defeat at home to Barcelona during the week, but they can draw confidence from last Saturday's 5-0 demolition of Newcastle. The Citizens have only been defeated once in their last 17 top-flight clashes, while they have won the last two, scoring nine in the process.

• Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 10 Premier League matches, seven of which they have won.

• Man City have been defeated only once in 17 top-flight games.

Liverpool are currently enjoying an 18 match undefeated streak in all competitions (in 90 minutes), but it's City who have been installed as the 31/20 favourites (Bet Victor) to come out on top at Anfield. Manuel Pellegrini's men have only lost two of their last 12 top-flight clashes with the Reds, while they convincingly won 3-1 at the Etihad in this season's previous encounter. However, the hosts should by no means be ruled out at a tempting 2/1 (Betfred), although it's a draw at 5/2 (Bet365) which catches the eye, especially given that half of the last dozen meetings have ended in this manner.

Continuing along those lines it's a score draw that represents the best bet at 7/2 (Bet Victor) as this outcome has occurred in half of the last six meetings in all competitions. In fact each of those three draws have each ended 2-2, making this scoreline an attractive punt 14/1 with William Hill.

As the above suggests this fixture has had its fair share of goals in recent years. Both teams have found the back of the net in each of the last half-a-dozen clashes, with all of those matches containing three goals or more, meaning over 2.5 goals is worth considering at 4/5, while a “yes” to both teams is predictably slim pickings at 13/20.

The first goalscorer market is always an extremely popular bet in this type of game, and Sunday's clash will be no different. Sergio Aguero, who scored a fine goal against Barcelona, has been installed as the 5/1 favourite to break the deadlock, while the Argentinian is available at 29/20 to net anytime. City new boy Wilfred Bony is ever so slightly longer at 6/1 to score first, whereas Yaya Toure represents a tempting bet at 12/1.

Over on the visitor's side Daniel Sturridge is also priced at 6/1 to grab the first goal of the game, while his in-form teammate Raheem Sterling, who opened the scoring in this fixture last season, is worth considering at 7/1. Philippe Coutinho has cropped up with a couple of stunning strikes recently, including his sumptuous goal against the Saints, meaning the Brazilian stands out at 5/1 to bag another goal this weekend.
