Five players that Jose Mourinho would like to sign at Manchester United

Tuesday 24th May 2016
Manchester United have now sent Louis van Gaal packing and replaced him with arguably the greatest manager in the world; Jose Mourinho. The former Chelsea boss is a born winner, and he'll be hoping to bring that mentality back to Old Trafford when he takes charge this summer.
The transfer window also looms, but with the European Championships coming in just a few weeks time, we could well see clubs delay their moves until after that international tournament.

We've taken a look at five players who Jose Mourinho would be extremely interested in bringing to the Theatre of Dreams when he officially takes control, and there are some huge names included.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic – The most likely signing on this list by quite some distance. The 34-year old Swede is out of contract at Paris Saint-Germain this season, and has already announced that he will be moving on. Although he'd cost a pretty penny, Manchester United have plenty of money at their disposal.

His relationship with Jose Mourinho is excellent, and he really has an awful lot of respect for the Portuguese manager. Zlatan Ibrahimovic could come in and have a ‘Cantona effect' on the current squad, as his passion and influence could rub off on the rest of the young Manchester United team.

N'Golo Kante – The surprise package. Kante had an outstanding debut season in England, taking the league by storm. The Frenchman is exactly the type of player Jose Mourinho looks for in his holding midfielders; Someone who just sits in front of the back four and enjoys doing the job of protecting his defence.

Leicester would be reluctant to part with one of their prized assets, but if the right offer comes in, playing in front of 75,000 every week might just be too tempting for Kante to say no to.

Raphael Varane – The former player. Raphael Varane and Jose Mourinho worked together at Real Madrid a few years ago. The growth of the talented Frenchman has certainly been stunted in recent years, due to injuries and the fact he hasn't really been playing all that much out in Spain.

However his natural ability is absolutely outstanding and Manchester United are desperate for a defensive partner for Chris Smalling. There aren't many better centre-backs on the market at the moment, and the lure of working with his former coach could seal the deal.

Alvaro Morata – The Spaniard is definitely available this summer. Real Madrid are looking to activate his £25million release clause, before selling him on to the highest bidder. United's squad is crying out for some pace and movement up front, and Morata will certainly bring that.

He's a striker who fits the Jose Mourinho mould, too, and could well form an outstanding partnership with Anthony Martial up front. He'd also be able to settle in rather quickly with the help of David de Gea, Ander Herrera and Juan Mata. This one should be a no-brainer.

Sadio Mane – A proper winger. Manchester United haven't had that world class right-winger for quite some time now, and have largely used Juan Mata out there. Jose will want to address that issue almost immediately, and bringing in Mane would definitely help that cause.

Southampton would obviously want to keep hold of their man from Senegal, but there will be plenty of clubs showing an interest in him this summer. Manchester United should be at the front of that queue.

This list is certain to get the Manchester United fans frothing at the mouth, and with Mourinho in charge, we could well see a title challenge in his first year at the club.
