5 players Aitor Karanka should sign for Nottingham Forest
Aitor Karanka took charge of his first game of Championship side Nottingham Forest at the weekend against Aston Villa. There was a lot of evidence that new signings were needed as his newly inherited squad lost the game 1-0 to promotion chasing Aston Villa. Aitor Karanka has proven himself in the Championship, having taken Middlesbrough to the Play-Off final in his first full season in charge and then taking them that one step further in 2016 when he guided them to second in the league and into the top flight. He was harshly sacked by Middlesbrough in the last campaign and now has a point to prove at Nottingham Forest. It is a very shrewd appointment and here are five players who he should try and sign from Boro for Forest.
The experienced midfielder has fallen down the pecking order at Middlesbrough this season and could be allowed to leave this January for the right price. The former Huddersfield Town and Leeds United central midfielder had his best form as player under Karanka and should reunite with him at Forest. There is no doubt that he will be a target for many clubs but Forest should definitely try and sign him.
Another midfielder, Forshaw has yet to feature for Middlesbrough so far since Tony Pulis took over. He again is another experienced midfielder who Karanka knows well from his time at Middlesbrough having signed him for them. Forshaw, formerly of Everton, Brentford and Wigan Athletic, should be playing regular first-team football at his age and Forest would be able to give him this. Boro would also let him leave at the right price and if Forest are to back Karanka financially in this transfer window, then Adam Forshaw should be a target for them.
The Spaniard is another who has lost his place in Boro's starting eleven this season and could be allowed to leave this January if the transfer fee is suitable. Ayala was a key player under Aitor Karanka in their 2015/16 promotion season. He has a good relationship with his fellow countryman and they should reunite at Forest. He is a solid defender who Karanka has trusted in the past and there is no reason why he would not be a hit at Forest as well.
Aitor Karanka was able to bring the best form of Bamford's career out of him during a loan spell from Chelsea. It is safe to say that Bamford has never quite reached the same heights and he may need to move from Boro to kick-start his career at a new home. There is no better place for him at this moment in time than Nottingham Forest. They are big club, in the Championship and managed by a man who has helped him reached a peak in his early career. Karanka should definitely try and sign him.
Karanka has outlined his desire to sign a goalkeeper for Nottingham Forest and I think he should try and sign Konstantopoulos. The 39 year-old is vastly experienced and is someone who Karanka knows well and can trust. Forest already have a promising 'keeper in Jordan Smith and just need another experienced head to come in on a short-term basis and there is no one more suited then the Konstantopolous.
